LIFE Regenerate at BIOFACH 2020

Between the 12 and 14th of February the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Organic Food, BIOFACH, was held in Nüremberg. This year, the fair achieved record highs for exhibitor numbers, exhibition space and international attendance. A total of 3,792 exhibitors from 110 countries showcased their products for trade visitors in a display area of 57,609 m². With the trade fairs occupying two halls more than last year, more than 47,000 professional buyers from 136 countries were won over by the new developments, trends and innovations from all around the world. The fair confirmed its position as the largest international platform for knowledge transfer and networking.

Among replicators of the LIFE Regenerate project a lot of doubts exist with regard to commercialisation and market access of sustainable meat. Every time this issue turns out to be the key barrier for taking up regenerative agricultural practices. VOLTERRA team, formed by Sven Kallen and Tiago de Santana, as part of the preparations of the "Replication/transfer plan for future application" took advantage of the fair to approach sustainable meat producers and sellers all around the world in order to better understand the current market needs and build more market channels to the project's farms products. The fair was also a great opportunity to disseminate the project and establish a broader network of potential partners. Spanish meat is considered high quality and deserves a fair price in the market. However, issues like scale & logistics, access to certified slaugtherhouses, adjusting to demand, etc. will need to be incorporated into the farmer's operations (and strategy).
